The 260 km route is considered to be medium difficulty with some height differences of 100-200 m occur a few times. We follow the Hornad river valley (286 km long, with 178 km located in Slovakia, and the remaining 108 km in Hungary) in the Carpathian Mountains and then cycle through the flat Tisa valley in Hungary. This spectacular journey through Central Europe takes us from Poland to Hungary, traversing a landscape steeped in tradition, history and fine wines. Beginning our journey in Krakow we head towards the High Tatras. Traversing the quiet country lanes that follow the course of the Hornad River we then head through the Carpathians, the scenery becoming more tranquil and rolling as we head into the warmer climes around Kosice, Slovakia's second city and a vibrant mix of old and new Europe. Continuing south from here we join the course of the Bodrog River as it meanders through a terrain of vineyards and villages towards the Hungarian border. A disused railway line then takes us through the famous wine producing landscapes of the Tokaj-Hegyalja region, en route to the picturesque town of Tokaj (region is noted for its sweet wines made from grapes affected by noble rot, a style of wine which has a long history in this region. The "nectar" coming from the grapes of Tokaj). A special treat!
