On this cycle tour you will discover a traditional and picturesque Alsace and the German side of the Rhine with the vineyards in the region of Kaisersthul. More than 250 km of cycle paths await your visit and will take you from Colmar to Strasbourg and beyond, through famous wine-growing villages.
Drop off your luggage at the hotel and take time to visit the city.
Via the “Breisgau-Radweg” bike path, you will head to the border town of Breisach on the banks of the Rhine. Here you can admire its cathedral, its city center and its picturesque alleys. On the French side, you will plunge into the history of the 17th and 18th centuries by visiting Neuf-Brisach, a Vauban stronghold, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will finally reach Colmar, capital of Alsace wines. Do not miss a walk through its exceptionally well-preserved historic center and a visit to the Unterlinden Museum, which houses the Issenheim Altarpiece, a masterpiece of Western art.
Today’s programme includes a slightly hilly stage through the vineyards, discovering the beautiful villages ofRiquewihr, Ribeauvillé, Barr and Obernai. You will be riding on a beautiful bike path far from any traffic to fully enjoy the exceptional panorama.
In Rosheim, you will discover the Saints-Pierre-et-Paul church, one of the jewels of Alsatian Roman architecture. In Molsheim, you will join the bicycle path of the Bruche canal that will lead you to the heart of Strasbourg, capital of the E.U. Its sumptuous Gothic cathedral and its historic centre classified as a World Heritage Site as well as its life style and gastronomy will give you an insight into the French way of life.
From Strasbourg, you will cross the beautiful Jardin des Deux Rives to reach Kehl where your route onthe German side of the Rhine begins. An easy and very flat stage, which will allow you to discover the Rhine forest and the pretty villages along the Rhine.
Pleasant bike paths will lead you through charming villages to Riegel and Emmendigen. A few more kilometers through the Landwasser forest and you will reach the city of Freiburg.
