Also, railway pass Thusis – Tirano 2nd class (valid for all regular train connections along the way). Guide book with detailed tour documentation and GPS data available. 7-day helpline for any problems. Total hiking distance 104 km on a route considered moderate. It is easy to shorten the long legs in the beginning of the trip. If you want to walk everything good stamina is needed. Some of the trails lead over narrow and rocky paths. Surefootedness is needed. Especially for the descent to Val Bever. The long distance walking trail of Via Albula Bernina leads along the UNESCO world heritage train line of the Rhaetian Rail (The Rhaetian Railway serves a number of major tourist destinations, such as St. Moritz and Davos. One of the RhB lines, the Bernina Railway, crosses the Bernina Pass at 2,253 metres (7,392 ft) above sea level and runs down to Tirano, Lombardy in Italy. In 2008, the RhB section from the Albula/Bernina area (the part from Thusis to Tirano, including St. Moritz) was added to the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The Albula-Bernina line is the first rail line in the world to be photographed and put on Google Street View. It runs as close as possible to the Albula and Bernina line and provides every now and then fascinating views that open out onto the 100 year old work of art in the magnificent alpine landscape. The first part of this walking trail brings you to Thusis and Albula Valley to Engadine with the world-famous skiing destination St. Moritz. You continue past the Bernina pass to Val Poschiavo and end your trip at the city of Tirano in Italy.
