Bulgaria - Balkan Cycling Tour (2020-2021)

BULGARIA: Balkan Cycling Tour 8 Days and 7 Nights' accommodation in family run hotels and guest houses in rooms with private facilities with 7 breakfast + 5 dinners (day 2-6). Vehicle support with an English-speaking guide/driver. You will be supplied with an English map and road notes and there is technical bike support if necessary. Airport pick up on arrival and drop off on the last day to the airport. Transfers during the riding days are provided. The 331 km route is on asphalt roads with very little traffic. Road conditions are relatively good with some exceptions where there are bumpy sections, potholes, rough asphalt. You will not  be doing any off road riding.  You will be having an opportunity to ride through a number of isolated villages. The guide/driver will be in the support vehicle carrying the luggage and will be checking several times a day if everything is OK with the group, waiting by crossroads, accompanying you to breakfast, lunch and dinner and providing information along the route about the most interesting sites. This exciting guided cycling trip in the heart of the Balkan mountains. On this tour you will cycle along the north and central parts of the Balkan Mountains, famous for their unspoiled nature, green valleys with sheep peacefully grazing on lush grass, precipitous cliffs and gentle, rolling hills offering plenty of unique cycling opportunities. The trip starts at the tiny Goliam Izvor village, passing by the Central Balkan National Park (situated in the heart of Bulgaria, in the central and highest parts of the Balkan Mountain. It keeps a unique collection of forest massifs, plant and animal species, historical monuments of global significance for science and culture) and you will end up in Veliko Tarnovo – the Old Bulgarian capital and one of the most charming Bulgarian towns. The narrow roads meander through picturesque villages that look as they have been untouched for the past 200 years. You’ll see wooden carts pulled by a horse or donkey and villagers making hay the old-fashioned way. Tour highlightsTroyan Monastery “Assumption of Virgin Mary”, being the 3rd largest in Bulgaria, is built in the style of the Bulgarian Renaissance. Etura Open-air Ethnographic Museum presenting the Bulgarian customs, craftsmanship, architecture and way of life in the region during the Bulgarian National Revival period. Bozhentsi village - an architectural reserve consisting of some 100 houses from The Bulgarian National Revival Period.
