Go from Leiden along the wonderful sheltered North Sea pathway.  Or plan ahead to spend an extra night in Delft and either cycle the 12 km into Den Haag or take the tram to Den Haag. Den Haag has some fun museums. Or ride 18 km to visit Rotterdam from Delft. You will find that everyone is friendly and speaks English. Cars are courteous and considerate.
