Always many cyclists on the marked pathways. When a guest does not want to cycle one day, she/he can skip the bike tour and relax on board while cruising and visiting the next harbour stop. The countryside on both banks of the Mosel is splendid, the cool wines planted by the Romans about 2000 years ago taste delicious even today, the picturesque little towns have rich histories and the conditions for cycling are indeed excellent. Here you will find the perfect mix of ingredients for a fine bike and barge vacation. This tour takes us through a wonderful, varying regions. We follow the river Mosel, partly in Germany, partly in France and partly in Luxembourg, along the endless vineyards growing up the sides from the river and the enchanting old cities like Cochem and Bernkastel. It goes without saying that we will taste the local wines whenever we can. Then, of course, there is TRIER, a UNESCO World Heritage City. Trier is a southwestern German city in the Mosel wine region, near the Luxembourg border. Founded by the Romans, it contains several well-preserved Roman structures like the Porta Nigra gate, the ruins of Roman baths, an amphitheater just outside the center and a stone bridge over the Mosel River. The Archaeological Museum displays Roman artifacts. Among Trier’s many Catholic churches is Trier Cathedral. Trier is the oldest city of Germany dating from the first century after Christ. After Trier we will follow the river Saar to visit charming Saarburg, with the stunning waterfalls in the city center. We continue into Luxembourg and France with their welcoming villages, where the inhabitants are proud of their sweet, smooth wines and golden “Mirabellen” liqueur (plum liqueur). Our final goal is the city of Metz with her splendid cathedral in the city square.
